We’re Doctors for Adults
Internal medicine is a healthcare specialty that focuses on maintaining wellness and anticipating conditions or illnesses before they have a chance to alter your health. Some believe that an internist is only for conditions that are outside the range of basic healthcare maintenance. But an internist is much, much more. In fact, your internist is the most likely professional to guide you and your loved ones through a healthy life, day by day.
The internists at Internal Medicine of Northern Michigan provide all aspects of healthcare from disease prevention to annual physicals including gynecologic exams, to management of ongoing chronic illnesses and inpatient care. When necessary, we refer patients to specialists for testing or treatments, but we will always continue to follow the course of a patients healthcare along with the specialist. An internist is an appropriate choice as a healthcare provider for anyone over the age of 18.
The key to good health is an active, ongoing relationship with your internist. Person-centered care ensures that you and your care team work together to anticipate your health needs. The pro-active relationship that you develop with your internist when you are well will help immeasurably if you are ill. This is the goal of person-centered care.
